Introducing your coaches.

Nidd Valley Road Runners have three qualified Coaches, and two qualified Run Leaders:

Emma David (Athletics Coach, level 2 UK Athletics)

I trained as an Athletics Coach because I enjoy helping fellow runners be the best that they can be. I might not be at the front of the field but have learnt a great deal through being a member of Nidd Valley Road Runners, and I love returning the favour by being a coach. My particular running interests are trail and fell running over longer distances, so I can certainly offer plenty of advice on endurance.

Coaching aims and goals of the club.

As coaches for Nidd Valley Road Runners we aim to help members achieve their individual goals by:
  • Providing weekly interval sessions over a set period of time.
  • Offering guidance on training issues.
  • Offering advice on stretching, nutrition, running kit and events.

We will also be happy to offer advice to anyone requiring help putting together individual training plans.

This seasons intervals start on the 3rd November 2011. We meet as usual at the club house at 6.45 ready to run at 7 pm. The season will be broken up into three blocks lasting 6/7 weeks each.

Block one will focus on strength endurance and will consist of weekly hill sessions where consistency of effort will be the key.

Block two will focus on building speed endurance and will consist of speed intervals of distances of 800m to 2 miles. Consistency of effort will again be important.

The final block will involve shorter distances at greater speeds! This block is for fine tuning runners ready for the summer racing season. Individual athletes will be advised on pacing and speed.

As a way of measuring improvement in performance we are encouraging club members to participate in the Harrogate park run. These are 5km courses which are accurately timed and held every Saturday at 9 am. They are free to enter (register at www.parkrun.co.uk) and are a great way to measure progress.

Please don’t hesitate to come and chat to us about any of your training needs.
